Starting today, Monday July 28th  My radio show, Creating an Inspired Life, is in the lineup on the new online station:  True2YouRadio.

My first show is today at 11am Central.  It’s replaying a few times a day though so I’d love if you listen in.  It’s my first show of my own so I’m finding my way and working out the kinks  but I invite you to join me as I continue on with this weekly show.

I’ll be covering topics that are true to my heart such as:

  • tips to be authentic day to day, why it’s not a one time decision but instead a thousand small decision each day.
  • exploring the minimalism movement
  • grief; exploring the emotions of losing someone or having someone close to us sick
  • setting boundaries
  • bringing inspiration into our daily lives
  • how to find what lights you up
  • finding ourselves again after big changes

RadioAnnouncement!

When I was approached about doing this show, it’s funny.  I’d had a list of topics and potential guests already listed on a page in my notebook.  I didn’t know what the list was for when I made it, but now I do.   (love how the universe works)

When you go to the station you can just click the play button at the bottom of the page, in between shows there are meditations and calming music.  There are a wide range of shows on the station, I’d love for you to start listening to mine and then stick around to see if there are others that you resonate with as well.   I feel incredibly blessed to get this opportunity and just today got to see the list of people who also have shows and I’m blown away to be included in the lineup with them.  eeeekk.

You can also click to download the podcast and listen when it works for you!

oh, and last fun part….   I got my dad to play my intro and outro music. 🙂   So special to me.

New Gallery Window Front

I had the pleasure this week of setting up my Music, Wine and Soul Artwork in the prime window front display at the Susan Hensel Gallery here in Minneapolis.  We snapped a few pictures that I wanted to share with you.

 SusanHensel_1

The top left painting:  For Me – Guitar   There are no crowds, no one to hear as I work through my song. It is just me and my guitar, together we learn to know each other and strive to sing in harmony. There may never be anyone who hears my song, I may never fill a stadium or a club but I love to play and today I play for me.

The bottom left painting above is: Postina.  This local band performed at the Fine Line Music Cafe a few years back when I did a show there with RAW.  They were amazing.  You can learn more about them here.

 SusanHensel_2

A few of my favorite things about the photo above:

The top left painting, “Showtime” is a painting I did a few years ago of my friend of over 30 years, Brett LaCasse.  I have loved seeing him pursue his music career.  He’s currently touring the state and a few national gigs with GB Leighton.

The top right painting was inspired by local Saxaphonist John Bertsch.   I had the pleasure of watching him perform a few years ago in Stillwater with Bruce Henry.  Really cool story that years before that show I saw Bruce Henry perform at Rossi’s Blue Star Jazz Club in Minneapolis and I was so blown away that his performance and the atmosphere that night inspired me to start painting my first music themed artwork.   You can see that painting here:

Art in the Making – Tulip Blossoms

Years ago after going through the experience of an ectopic pregnancy I got a glimpse into the pain many women (and men) go through when mourning and healing through a miscarriage.

I’ve connected with many women since then who have experienced this, this video today is for each of you and your little angels waiting for us in heaven.

Sending love and hugs. See the messages hidden within this painting as I paint it.

Thrifty Thursdays – End Table Makeover

RichandCreativeThrifty_Header copy

End Table Makeover

I LOVE to get my hands on ugly furniture and make them over.  Sometimes I do intricate painting on them other times I just need something to match my decor and I know I’ll change it again later.

This is an end table my sweet mother in law gave me, she knew I could find a way to paint it and give it an updated look.  I’m going to be repainting it soon after our home remodel is done but it did it’s job well while being carried around tons by the 3 year old. I intentionally scratched it up a bit when I did it. This gave it a distressed look right away and no one was afraid to use it.  If I was doing a more permanent job on it I would have sanded it well and primed it first before painting.  For what I needed it for just painting it seemed to work just fine.  Enjoy! Do you ever paint paint furniture to match a wall in your house?  Even if it’s a trendy one that you know you’ll be re-painting?  I’d love to hear your makeover stories! Share in the comments below.

The power of the Dreambox

The power of Intention.

You have probably heard of it.  Movies such as The Secret, What the Bleep do we know and more address this.  You can also find books on the subject.  It’s amazingly powerful.

Good or bad, what we focus on starts to show up.

DreamBox_art

You can create your own dream box or purchase one here. Find one that speaks to your heart. It’s a sacred process.   I write out a paper first that says, “All things in this box are true”.   I write things I want to bring into my life, attract and dare to dream about.  It’s powerful.

Enjoy!

Make sure you’re not making your family feel this way

It’s a cold, make that very cold few days here in Minnesota, because of that the kids are off school today and Bruce’s shop closed for the day so we are all cozied inside playing games and watching movies.

I wanted to take a few minutes to connect with you and share a few very personal lessons I’ve learned.

Some of you may not know why I feel so passionate about helping women re-find themselves and their place in this world.  It’s a very raw story and I share it with you with the intent of using the lessons learned from it to help other families never go through what mine did.  My new e-course starts in a couple weeks and it’s not just a class to me, it’s about women coming together and helping each other through the life’s variety of paths and making space for our lights to shine.

I think back to 2008 feeling so helpless, shedding tears yet again, trying to figure out what I could do or say to help my dear, sweet mother.  I was watching the woman I looked up to my whole life not see her value in the world.  It broke my heart.

I don’t want ANYONE to feel what I felt then.  Sadly I’m learning it’s a silent epidemic that people everywhere are going through, thinking they are alone.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

While my mother was an expert at creating the best family get togethers, giving the perfect gift or even cutting our hair when we were young, later on she didn’t take enough time in her life to stop and invest in her own well being.  Her joys, her passions, her friends, the way she could connect with the world and what she had to offer it all took a back seat to making sure everyone else around her had what they needed. Those last 20 years it was all about her family.

On one hand, as a member of her family this was an amazing gift she gave us. We all had a best friend on standby ready to help us, hear about what we needed to say and help us figure out lifes messes.  On the other hand had she taken time for her self, learned to say no more often and had better boundaries I believe she would still be here today. Regardless of whether that last part is true, undoubtedly she would have had a much more joyous last few years here on earth.

She passed away unexpectedly from pancreatitis in January of 2009.

I can’t speak for the other people in her life but I can share the lessons I learned from those days, her death and the years following.

I made a vow to myself that I would help women just like my mom; Beautiful, loving, wise, strong women.  This was a woman who raised 5 kids and had more love for people than I’ve ever seen.  The thing is her feeling bad didn’t happen over night.  It came after years of her taking on more than she needed, thinking things would get better on their own. Choosing to think that there was something wrong with her instead of realizing her emotions were very normal for someone going through what she was. Also, feeling shame that she couldn’t fix everything she felt and that was happening around her.

I learned a few very important things in the following months.

1) Taking on everyone else’s problems and not having healthy boundaries can actually, really kill you.

2) We all think we have forever.  We don’t. It’s so important we spend our lives doing things that matter, that make a difference and then are in alignment with our truest selves.

3) You can’t take the stuff with you. Don’t spend your life focused on things. It’s the love, memories and wisdom you shared during your life that matters after you’re gone.

4) Shame is deadly.  Don’t let yourself live in shame. Get help if you need it, pray, ask for forgiveness, talk to those who care about you. Often the power those things we are so scared of others knowing have over us are diminished once we talk about them.

5) No matter how much you want to fix the problems of someone around you, they have to be willing to do the work and WANT TO CHANGE.  You CAN’T do it for them.

6) If you are noticing that you are feeling sad, out of sorts or you’ve lost your confidence and aren’t sure what your life is about as you enter a new chapter then please know that there are resources out there for you and YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Even if you don’t take my e-course or resonate with the other things I’m saying please listen to this one thing:  If you aren’t feeling well, or your intuition tells you something isn’t right, please get help, get checked out.  My mom passed away of pancreatitis.  A very curable condition if caught in time. Be proactiv with your health.  That includes your mental health. Talk to someone, journal, find an online group that fits what you’re needing.  If you have a family member going through this, I understand how awkward it can be to have these tough conversations but try to have them, lovingly. If you can’t say it, try to write a heartfelt letter or have a qualified 3rd party help in communicating the message and hope of getting through it.

The thing is, I hope to reach women much earlier than those darkest days, so none of us will never have to feel that despair.  Even if you don’t know what it is that you should be focusing on, we’ll be laying out a variety of topics to help get you started in the right direction. Equally important to the information is the community this e-course will bring. Loving, wise, compassionate women, each with their own gifts.

If you are interested in really honest, open coversations about the subjects above and more, please join me for the Finding Myself in the Moonlight e-course!

Whats coming up for 2014 plus a year in review

Hello to you!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you what I have in store for 2014 and what it means for you.  (make sure to read to the end, there are some great inspiring links, photos and more)

Let me also take a moment to say Thank you to each of you.  I feel so blessed to be a part of a community where I can pour out my heart, share new artwork and be vulnerable in sharing my biggest dreams, goals and most personal stories. I love doing what I do, I love to paint, story tell, write poetry and teach. The fun part; I’ve been painting for 20 years and I feel like I’m just getting warmed up.

I just treated myself to a birthday gift this past week, I bought a set of oil paints.  The last time I tried oil painting is when I was 12, I put the painting in a drawer of my desk when I was finished and went back 3 months later and it was still wet… I decided right then that oil painting wasn’t for me.  Since then though I’ve wondered, I often paint with acrylics in a style that would work great in oils.  So fingers crossed as I experiment with them, I’ll make sure to share some of my work as I complete them.

So, what a year 2013 was.  I have gotten to see some of the fruits of past labor.  In November a necklace I designed was presented for sale internationally. I loved hearing more about the final details of it (since I was only involved in the initial stages), it is made of recycled silver and the chains were all make in Bali.  How amazing!

You can now find my bridal card line at Amazing Alterations in Anoka, Minnesota.  New Moon Metaphysical Store in Anoka also began carrying a line of my uplifting and soulful artwork, prints and cards.

I was also able to do the first (of hopefully many) baseball paintings on the fabric from the roof of the metrodome.  This is some of the fabric from when the roof collapsed a few years back.

And we had SO much fun at the studio.  When the time is right and I find the right people to share a space with I have a feeling I’ll go the studio route again. It was a little isolating through all by myself.

Your Life is far too valuable to live it like everyone else!

1. Celebrate your uniqueness. Your life was never meant to be lived like everyone else. You don’t look the same, you don’t sound the same, and your personality is special. Your deep-held values are unique. Even your laugh sets you apart. Throwing that away just for the sake of looking and living like everyone else is one of the cruelest things that you can ever do – it will always prevent you from fully living your life. Instead, champion the things that make you unique. Celebrate them.

2. Realize that most peoples’ lives are heading toward destruction. Just consider the latest statistics. For example: Last year, on average, Americans carried $8,100 in consumer credit (not mortgage debt) – that is $8,100 for every man, woman, and child in America. It’s no wonder 46% of Americans say they suffer from debt-related stress. And according to the American Medical Association, stress is a factor in more than 75% of sickness today. In addition, The Americans for Divorce Reform estimates that soon “50 percent of marriages will end in divorce if current trends continue.” One of the leading factors? You got it, financial problems.

3. Accept the truth that there is a better life out there. Reading through the statistics above, one can not help but say, “There must be something better out there.” There is and there always has been. Unfortunately, most people are so busy tripping over each other to purchase culture’s newest release that they miss out completely on the better life. Do not be fooled. The better life is not being mass-produced in a factory… you won’t find it on the shelves in a department store. It has never been found there. And never will be.

See how Minnesota photographer Pam Dusbabek (and my dear friend) is changing the way people see their own families.  She photographed my family this summer and it made me find new beauty in our everyday activities. She’s so amazing , you’ll LOVE her.  Plus she gives great ideas too, like when she started photographing her own children on Christmas Eve as they slept.  I’ve started doing this now and I love looking at those photos knowing they are filled with a magical feeling that only happens on Christmas Eve night.

I had a life changing dream a month ago that forever changed the way I handle competition, jealousy, envy, etc. You can read about it here.

Sending HUGE amounts of love, gratitude and well wishes for an amazing 2014 to you! (and a Happy Birthday today to my sister, Ang!)

**Noelle

Do you ask for what you want?

I just watched this video, it’s a brilliant PR move and so incredible to even watch and feel the joy for these people.

You can watch this video here:

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/12/09/viral-airline-stages-magnificent-christmas-miracle-for-hundreds-of-lucky-passengers/

As I sobbed my way through, smiling and laughing I had another thought also.  This situation is so much like life.  Some of us expect great and powerful lives, others expect very little. And often we get what we ask for.  I’m gonna get deep here.  It’s one thing to casually throw out ‘dreams and wishes” and expect them, it’s a whole other thing to know in every fiber of your being that you are called to be a part of something, live somewhere, have things. You are worthy, you  are deserving.   When you focus on what you don’t have the energetic vibration you are putting out into the world is that of lack, not enough. You will attract that.

In applying this to my own life here is what my takeaways are:

1. I know that I’m being called to move our family somewhere else.  I love being near our families and friends but it’s as if chapter is closing and it’s no longer in alignment with my or Bruce’s calling and purpose.  No matter how much we are trying to convice ourselves to stay put, suck it up and that it’s safe and comforatble we know different.

2. It is really easy for me to go into my default way of thinking and curse the cold, dread going outside this time of year and focus on knowing the details of this calling.  Where are we supposed to move? How will we financially make a living there? What about the benefits we have here? What about the kids and their friends that they’ll miss. On and on.

3. In trusting the bigger picture it’s vital for us to do a handful of things:

     a. Visualize the feelings I feel when I think of being in the perfect place (for our family). Imagine everything working out, the jobs fall into place.

     b. Don’t get stuck in my perception of reality right now and all the things that appear to be conflicting.  Example – I will miss my siblings and their kids, our parents and grandparents are aging, does this make us selfish?  How is Bruce going to make what he makes now? He’ll lose his senority, benefits, etc.

     c. We must live our lives here in Minnesota with as much happiness, fun, and gratefullness as possible. Appreciate it, savor it. Knowing this won’t make us stuck here but it will put us in a vibrational match with the feelings we want to have. (Wherever we live.)

     d. Make room for miracles.  We have been de-cluttering. Asking ourselves of every item we own, “would we still want that if it meant we had to move it?”  many times the answer is no.  So it goes.  Lightening up is both literally making room for miracles and decluttering our thought process and spirit so we can spend less time cleaning, moving and walking around things that no longer serve our vision or life.   This also includes financial preparations; saving money to move, paying down things, doing fixes on the house to rent it or sell it.  Anything that will hold up the process when that place we are meant to be calls our name and steps forward.

4. Honor the knowing, not the ego.   I no longer feel the need to constantly explain why I feel called to move.  The biggest thing I looked at internally however is “am I running away from anything?”  I think a couple years ago when I wanted to move the answer was yes.  So I’ve stayed, worked through the muck, done lots of deep soul work, the repairing and understanding of relationships. I can say with certainty that we are making changes that are in complete alignment with why we have been put here on this planet, at this time.  It’s connecting more with ourselves, honoring ourselves and trusting.  Knowing it will fall into place when the time is right.

So back to the video, it also made me wonder – there is a guy who asks for socks and underwear. necessary parts of life. But do you think he was a little pissed when he saw the next family ask for a big screen tv (and get it)?  Do you think he kicked himself for not thinking bigger?  Not in a selfish, greedy way but maybe he needed a new dishwasher or something really valid.   Just a thought worth pondering.

WEBStndgBowTrust5x7

So it all comes down to this.   The universe, God, source, energy is asking you every day what you want.  And from a deep, spiritual, loving place you can stand up and claim what you need and want. But many of us never do.  We stay little, we don’t want to make waves or seem “different” or crazy.  So we don’t dig deep enough to find that place in ourselves that is peaceful and authentic.  We are so caught up in our stories. All the reasons why things can’t be.  We need to let go of those.  This can take moments or years, some people never will let go of all their story or victim mentality.  There are so many great coaches, speakers, pastors, online courses that can help us do this.  Some of the things I’ve done and I continue to do so that have helped me learn to listen and release the past:  I’ve cried, prayed, talked, meditated, had dreams, re-birthed (breathing technique), released blocks on a cellular level and pulled cords, re-lived emotions letting myself cry them out and re-enact them releasing their hold on me. I’ve worked with coaches, learned breathing techniques, found connection with people who are wise, supportive and loving. I create vision boards, lists of goals. Done acupuncture visit my chiropractor bi-weekly, this makes sure my body if functioning and the nerves are unblocked and my energy is flowing. I pray some more.  Then I make sure to sit and listen. Not to an external voice but an inner knowing that arises.   I also use my art and journaling as a release.

It sounds like work but I savor every one of those items on that list. Like a gift to myself. They feel good. Like coming home.

Wishing you peace and love!!
