Butterfly wishes from Grandma

This past year I’ve been shown in a million ways that I am supposed to paint the Sacred Hellos artwork.  Validation to others, they aren’t crazy when they see signs; especially the ones who aren’t as vocal as I am about talking about those signs.  Also a comforting, recognition to the hellos I have gotten. They give me so much comfort and peace. After losing my own mom and other’s since I’ve been open to receiving and paying attention to the signs thsey send.  I’m so grateful.  I don’t go looking for them but I do try to notice them once they are there.      Well I have tears today as I realize another perfectly orchestrated hello from a new angel in Heaven.

Since I created the Sacred Hellos artwork I’ve had people asking me if I had any butterfly art. But this week it was all amplified. This week I’ve been overtaken by inspiration, numerous people asking for butterfly art.  I knew that I now was the time to paint them.  I sketched, plotted then I worked all day on Wednesday painting butterflies.

Today, in a completely different mind space I spent time this morning watching videos that my ex-brother in law has taken of his Grandma. This would be my exes Grandma. Sky’s great-grandma.  She was an AMAZING woman.  I feel so blessed to have known and loved her these past 18 years. She passed away earlier this week.  I’ve felt a range of sadness for those she’s left behind and complete happiness for her; imaging her reuniting with her husband who passed away long before I knew her and also seeing her parents again.  She was ready to go be with them.

Below is one of the videos I was watching. It’s a couple years old, yet I haven’t ever seen it.  Feel free to jump to the 6 minute mark.

She talks about how she wants to come back as a butterfly.   Chills and tears.

Hal has taken hundreds of hours of video of Grandma. She grew up in New York and is a bold, beautiful Italian woman.  Her blunt, bold style was a new world for me after growing up with my reserved, Minnesota family.  She was full of love.  Her and Skylar shared a birthday. We were all Capricorns and she called us her Minnesota Nanny Goats.

I just sit today in rememberance of her.  I feel like I got a visit that I wasn’t even aware I was getting now looking back at the paintings of butterflies that have overtaken my week.

Thank you for the hello Grandma.  Love you forever!

Here are the paintings from this week. You can click on them to learn more.

I am grateful I followed the nudge to paint these.  It’ll be fun to see who there were meant for.

Summer projects with photos

We’ve been working hard around the new house to balance getting projects done and relaxing and enjoying being out in nature.  A few of the highlights:

– The day I got in the car and got one block down the road and noticed something looking back at me from inside the car on the dashboard.  It took my brain a few seconds to even register what it was seeing.. then I realized it was a garter snake.  It stared back at me for a few seconds then as I somehow tried to maintain my composure and not crash into the ditch, it then turned and slithered into the dashboard vent.   I jumped out of my car screaming (how you’d expect) and tried to figure out what to do.  And that folks is how I met our first neighbor..  me totally freaking out like the biggest city girl ever.   I ended up leaving our car in their driveway for a few hours until I got up the nerve, put on socks, tucked my pants in, tennis shoes and gloves and marched over there determined not to be beaten by a snake.   It was one of my bravest moments as I got in my car and drove it back home.   Thankfully my husband is a badass and drove the car the next day for me and sure enough, the snake slithers down out of the dashboard onto the passenger foot area and he got it out of the car for me.  My real life HERO.

– Another funny story happened just the other day.  We were painting the house and Bruce brought the car over and we were thoroughly enjoying some 80’s music.  A few hours later he started the car just to make sure that the battery didn’t die.  He walked into the house to check on something and I was on the deck getting more paint and suddenly I saw the car jerk into motion and swerve up onto the driveway and then back down again until a hundred plus feet later it crashed into a tree.   All I could do is watch it happen in slow motion..

DSCN6158 DSCN6162

I’m glad that we can laugh about it.  Bruce was able to pull most of the dented area back out and order a new headlight.  Someday we’ll replace the car but for now, it’s paid for and we have a ton of other projects we want to spend money on so it’ll have to do for now.

I’ve been busy with some projects around that house that I’ll be sharing soon.  For now though I’ll share a few fun ones that I’ve managed to take pictures of.    I’m a thrifty gal, I love a good deal.  Boy did we find one with this set.

DSCN5987

I scored this huge hutch, armoire and queen bed set all for only $200.  Solid wood.   I was so excited.   Of course we painted it all.  Sky claimed the armoire and painted it white.  I claimed the bed and we also painted that white.   And the hutch, I admit I had a symbolic life moment of choice.  I really wanted to go with a bold color and add some fun into the dining room, but my sensible side was telling me to just do it white.  I’m glad I let my fun side win out.

Hutch_project

On the back of the mirror above I also experimented with taking part of the back of the mirror off to give it an antiqued feeling.  I still have lots to learn but it was a fun project.  I then put some neutral wrapping paper behind it so that is what is showing through the clear parts (instead of the chipboard mirror backing).

This summer has been all about surrendering.  Things taking longer than I thought they would. Being okay in the midst of boxes still unpacked.  Having fun along the way.

As I unpack and set up each room I’m been working hard to only put things in this house that we love and that are part of the life we want to have here.   I’ve been reading, “The life changing magic of tidying up” by Marie Kondo.  Also some books on Feng Shui and decor.   Really trying to hold each item and feel how it makes me feel.  Some rooms have been a slow unfolding for this reason others had to be set up and I’ll continue going through them later.  I’m loving what is happening though as I continue to make sure we don’t overcrowd this house and instead allow room for future great finds on vacations and future projects.

One of my favorite spots in the house.  These pieces are right next to the computer desk area in the living room.  The top one is a shadow box from my Europe trip last year.  A postcard from Germany, my Eiffel Tower ticket.  A rock from the Mediterranean in Nice, France and some coins.  When I look at that box it makes me think of what is possible. The connect to others around the world. Friendships formed. dreams. Feeling on top of the world.

The box below it to the left is one Bruce and I made a couple years ago as we worked to put our goals out into action.  A nature style cabin/house in the background.  In front of it; all our credit cards that we cut up. It was our message to ourselves and the universe that we were doing what it took to make our dreams a reality. That we would be really careful with our spending, save, be wise and it would get us to our home.

The to the right of that, a 2D sculpture that Skylar did a few years back. To me it reminds me to consider the earth, its sacredness but also sometimes let loose and howl.

I’ll get some before and after shots of more actual projects for my next update.  In the meantime here are a couple other random fun shots.

5 feathers – new artwork video

5 Feathers

This painting is so special to me.  I took a painting that was created out of joy, admiration and inspiration that had since had negative things attached to it.  An artist who let me take photographs of her and do a painting then later threatened to sue me for selling the artwork.  Lots of nonsense and negativity.  Everything opposite of what I stand for in my artwork and business.  When the exchange first occured I allowed myself to cry for a few minutes.  This person was trying to assure me not to take it personally…      could there be a more personal business than spending hundreds of hours pouring my soul onto canvas. Feeling vulnerable in my views, my work.   She then told me that she’d be happy to possible sell the work and we could split the money, blah blah blah..    I assured her that the work no longer held the same meaning for me.  That I could 100% guarantee that I would have no interest in EVER selling that work, in fact I’d be painting over it.  Then I hid all the email exchanged, said a prayer and promised myself I’d move on and use this as a growing experience.  (get releases in writing)

So that leads me to a few months back.  I joyously spray painted over part of the canvas and sat quietly and felt what it should transform into.  I knew it was supposed to be a dream catcher.   Symbolizing weeding out the negative.  Focusing and celebrating the good in people and life.  Celebrating our dreams.

I recorded the painting on on a time-lapse video.   It’s been sitting on my computer for over 9 months.

That leads me to today.  I woke up today and knew that today was the day.  It’s time to share 5 feathers with the world.   I lovingly share this video and I am so thrilled to have the background music be a recording done decades ago of my parents singing together.  (So special to me).

So I dedicate this painting to everyone who, in the face of negativity, has instead chosen good.  Chosen happiness, chosen to go for their dreams.

Behind each of the feathers I wrote a message.  They are:

– Leave the world a better place

– Abundance of love

– Connection.   Believe.

– Peaceful thoughtful life

– Serve

Those are some of the believes and goals I live my life by.   What would your 5 feathers say?

New Gallery Window Front

I had the pleasure this week of setting up my Music, Wine and Soul Artwork in the prime window front display at the Susan Hensel Gallery here in Minneapolis.  We snapped a few pictures that I wanted to share with you.

 SusanHensel_1

The top left painting:  For Me – Guitar   There are no crowds, no one to hear as I work through my song. It is just me and my guitar, together we learn to know each other and strive to sing in harmony. There may never be anyone who hears my song, I may never fill a stadium or a club but I love to play and today I play for me.

The bottom left painting above is: Postina.  This local band performed at the Fine Line Music Cafe a few years back when I did a show there with RAW.  They were amazing.  You can learn more about them here.

 SusanHensel_2

A few of my favorite things about the photo above:

The top left painting, “Showtime” is a painting I did a few years ago of my friend of over 30 years, Brett LaCasse.  I have loved seeing him pursue his music career.  He’s currently touring the state and a few national gigs with GB Leighton.

The top right painting was inspired by local Saxaphonist John Bertsch.   I had the pleasure of watching him perform a few years ago in Stillwater with Bruce Henry.  Really cool story that years before that show I saw Bruce Henry perform at Rossi’s Blue Star Jazz Club in Minneapolis and I was so blown away that his performance and the atmosphere that night inspired me to start painting my first music themed artwork.   You can see that painting here:

Art in the Making – Tulip Blossoms

Years ago after going through the experience of an ectopic pregnancy I got a glimpse into the pain many women (and men) go through when mourning and healing through a miscarriage.

I’ve connected with many women since then who have experienced this, this video today is for each of you and your little angels waiting for us in heaven.

Sending love and hugs. See the messages hidden within this painting as I paint it.

Pass along this sale info to them also, spread the cheer.  Thanks!

Wondering about the details?  Here you go:

Prints – these prints are 8″x10″ and matted, the mats are 11″x14″ on the outer edge. This is a standard size, you will look for a frame with an 11″x14″ opening.  These are available at places like  Target all the way up to higher end frame shops.

Pallet prints – we disassemble pallets, cut them down and re-assemble them into a 9″ x 11″ finished piece. Hello,

I hope you had a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. We spent ours camping up north and it was so peaceful. I just love sitting around a fire and taking time to hang out, read some magazines (Mingle and Where Women Create – they are amazing!!) and hang out with family and friends. Summer is amping up pretty quick, got the garden planted and all the flowers in. This weekend it’s mulch and we’re thinking 2 apple trees. The older I get the more I appreciate the simple acts of planting and connecting with nature.

I just sent out the last of the fastpitch artwork from May’s artwork special. I thank each of you who participated and ordered an original. The next sports special will be in August and that will feature a Volleyball and I’m debating between dance and cheer for the 2nd one. (If you have an opinion let me know). Then in Sept or Oct it’ll be Basketball and Hockey. You can purchase any of the sports artwork here.

Two weeks ago Aspen started daycare full time, I think it’s been harder on me than on him. Such a strange transition. He’s handling it like a champ though. Since January I’ve been balancing work with being home with him most days so I have to admit that as much as I miss hanging out everyday with my little man I’m excited to dive in full time again at the studio. I’m planning on being at the studio Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s all day and until lunch on Tuesday’s and Thursdays. Stop on in any time and say hi if you’re in the area.

Aspen tried pudding for his first time a couple weeks ago, I had to share these photos. Love him.

I’m so excited about this artwork that I’m starting the special a day early. Is there anything better then being out in nature and looking up into the night sky? There are billions of stars twinkling back. I just can’t get enough. It touches something in me so deeply. I created this artwork to help share that experience. My original had sold months ago but I received an order for one for a Father’s Day gift and I decided it’s a perfect opportunity to create a group of them and allow more people to share in stars through the trees love. If you know someone that would love this artwork special please forward them this newsletter. Most of my business is from word of mouth so I appreciate each of you that pass on my info when it fits what someone is looking for.

Other News:

Friday June 14th, Crossroads Art Class

Gather up the girls for a painting class! People have loved taking this class.

Rising up through women everywhere is a nudging need to connect with themselves on a deeper, more soulful level. People are busy, racing through each day’s to-do list and left feeling depleted, exhausted and guilty. I created this class as a place to connect with that deeper, wiser, calmer part of ourselves. To gain perspective, confidence and take time for ourselves.

So often we are between the calm and the chaos in our lives. This bold, fun artwork is full of reminders to hold our heads high as we work through changes and different times of life. You will learn techniques to create the background and can create it to match your décor or mood. $38 – 11”x14” canvas or $45 – 16”x20”

This class if perfect for anyone from a beginner to an expert, we will take our thoughts out of our mind. Focusing less on the details, exact techniques and comparing our work to others. We will go into our hearts and create from a creative, explorative and non-judgemental space.

Have a great weekend everyone!! As always, if you have any questions about getting some custom artwork made, a mural or wanting something you don’t see on my website just send me an email. **Noelle

P.S. If you would like to support my May 2014 Harmony Project trip to the Israeli-Palestinian region you can still buy bracelets and learn more about it here. I am grateful for all the donations I received the last few months (a special thank you to Marilyn, Nola, Liv, Doreen and Angie who have each donated $50 or more). I will start another donation campain at the end of summer, in the meantime the best way to help is to order a bracelet, a “She” print or book an art class for you and your friends or family. I look forward to connecting with my Israeli and Palestinian sisters and holding a space for peace and love to grow.

Fastpitch and Soccer Art Special

Time sensitive Sports Artwork Special!

As the sun is shining and I think about my daughter’s first fastpitch tournament of the season this coming weekend I get excited.  I love the sport, the smell of the grass, getting to hang out and watch her dedicate herself to learning and growing in the sport. I also love an excuse to sit outside and let the world around us stop for a bit as we cheer her on.

I love to paint things that inspired people to live authentic and inspired lives. For years that included numerous pieces of music scenes, mind body and spirit connection work and now recently again I’m inspired to connect with the love of sports I and so many others have.

It’s an exciting feeling to have an original piece of artwork that has been specially created just for you. It goes on the wall and there is pride there knowing you connect with it. It gives the world a glimpse into what you are about.  I want to give you a chance to get an original artwork piece for yourself or someone you care about.

Earlier this year I offered the baseball and football special. (These are still available at the regular prices.) It was such a success that I’ve decided to add a few more sports every couple months.

For May it is the bold neon yellow fastpitch softball and the black and white soccer ball in the grass.
